The Caldera Highway -- New Route to Beaches from San Jose
Officially known as the Autopista del Sol, this new road is an easy and scenic way to travel between the capital of Costa Rica and the Pacific coast beaches.
The $230 million highway project was completed in July of 2010. The highway travels from Villa Colon through the valley to Orotina then on to Caldera on the coast, taking an hour off travel time. Normally there is a toll of $2.50. The new highway is hoped to establish the central pacific as the business hub of Costa Rica as well as give those traveling from the capital an alternate route to the Pan-american highway.
